This is a site for a homeschool support group. Please take a look and let me know if you notice any mistakes or any design areas that could use improvement.
Thanks!

Looks okay to me. But ...
I don't like the scrolling iframe (I'd rather scroll the whole page) but you may well have good reasons for doing it that way.
I'd like some indication of what page I'm on from the main nav on the left. Same goes for the links at the bottom.
On your Homeschooling Information page, if I click one of the links within the iframe (How to Get Started, etc.) there's no link to get me back to the menu at the top.
The mouseover on the About Us, Join Us and Contact Us links isn't too pretty. Not sure I like the colour even before I mouseover it.
I take issue with items one through six in the statement of faith but that's a whole other matter.
Oh - and your sponsors .gif says Click for More Info but it's not a link.

Michelle,
Very attractive design!
I would agree with TBH on the top nav links. I would eliminate the background color change on the anchors. The click for more info doesn't work for me also.
I'm on a mac (OSX 10.2) and I get a fairly wide variation of font sizes in my different browsers whenever the units x-small, small, medium, etc. are used.
Safari (1.0.2) shows a glitch - I get the wording "To learn more about WWCHE, use the About Us, link above." This shows above the top nav: About Us - Join Us - Contact Us links (not on the home page, though). Also the position of the content table is higher than in the other browsers. About 5 pixels above the dark background line.
Maybe someone has a newer Safari version to check it out.
Very nice though! _________________ Fissebu and cola nuts |

I like the colors and general theme a lot. Very nice.
I'm with TBH on the iframe. I'll go a step further and say I have a problem with fixed width sites in general. The fixed height plus scrolling really adds to my frustration there.
The font size inside the iframe is really small on all the pages I looked at.
I noticed the Homeschooling Info link at the bottom isn't active on the home page. _________________ When . . . it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen: either you will be given something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly. - Edward Teller |

Thank you for catching all of those problems! I corrected the links, changed the font sizes to percentages, and added more "back to top" links.
Ron, I'm not sure why Safari is showing the bottom of the background image before the links, so I don't know how to fix it. I'm not sure how many homeschool parents are going to be using Safari, but I would like all of the visitors to be able to access the information. Do you think the problem makes the site unusable for people using Safari?
About the iframe and not having any page indicators in the navigation: I am not going to be updating the site myself, so I tried to design it in a way that would be easy for others to update. I started to explain the iframe in the first message but decided to let you guys look at it and give me your comments first. Aside from the first page, all of the main pages are based on a Dreamweaver template, with the only editable region the iframe tag. The articles section is a blog that any leader in the group should be able to update without any problems. The other pages that load into the iframe all end in _edit.html, and they are basically just text. I'm not a big fan of iframes and fixed size sites either, but my hope is that by creating the site this way, it will still look ok in a few months. |

Not at all.
Safari renders the #navtop height at 34 pixels so you are getting that much from the bottom of the childwriting image. If I take out just the text in the #navtop it will give the 20px height as desired. Not sure what's going on with Safari to give that. I tried a couple of things but no luck.
If I put text in the navtop li with or without the anchors I get the 34px height again.
Fonts are a nicer size and more consistent between browsers for me now. _________________ Fissebu and cola nuts |
