Same site as last time I asked, but with a new maps section added.
I've been mapping UK hills onto Google Maps. I realise it can be quite slow but I'd like to hear any other suggestions for improvement. I don't really want to post a login up here but I have a test account ready. PM me if you want it.
I'm particularly interested in just the maps section but if you have something to say about the rest of the site I'm listening. _________________ Let's all lobby for mandatory blood and urine testing of all politicians on a weekly basis. They have nothing to hide. |

Plenty of views but no comments. It must be flawless.
I'm inclined to lock the thread before I hear otherwise. ;O] _________________ Let's all lobby for mandatory blood and urine testing of all politicians on a weekly basis. They have nothing to hide. |

Those photos are gorgeous TBH - is that an HDR camera?
I have to admit I'm a little bit confused by the mapping data - since it's about Walks, is that meant to show walking trails, or hills one could plot a path to given a map of walking trails?
LA needs someone like you mapping out Topanga Canyon, my newbie status to the area has lead me to some far more challenging runs (2mi uphill anyone?) than I planned on. |

Nah, it's not HDR. Most of the photos on there were taken with a cheap Kodak. :)

It's just collections of what you might call significant hills. Corbetts, for example, are distinct mountains between 2500 and 3000 feet with a re-ascent of at least 500 feet on all sides. People set themselves the target of climbing all 219 and usually track their progress with a spreadsheet or something like that. I thought I'd lay them all out on a map and let people track which hills they've climbed that way. Obviously, they need to create an account to do that. For unregistered users it's just a map of where all the hills are.
I'm toying with the idea of letting users add routes for the hills but incorrect route information could get someone killed and I'd be a bit worried about being held responsible for that.
Hope that makes sense. _________________ Let's all lobby for mandatory blood and urine testing of all politicians on a weekly basis. They have nothing to hide. |

I think the platypus should definitely be essential.
Looks good tho. Mapping idea is a good one too...makes sense to me. |

Nah - if you're crossing mountain streams all day there's no point carrying two litres of water around. I should probably move the whisky from the essential to the optional list though.
